Membership Information

The Society shall consist of Fellows, Honorary Fellows and Life Fellows.

A. Qualifications:

A candidate, to be eligible for Fellowship in the Obstetrical and Gynecological Society of Suffolk County, Inc. must meet the following requirements to the satisfaction of the Council:

  1. He/She shall be a practitioner of obstetrics and gynecology who has practiced in Suffolk County, New York, for one year and is eligible for membership in the Suffolk County Medical Society.
  2. He/She shall be Board Eligible or shall be certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

B. Application:

A candidate must submit his application on a prescribed form, obtainable from the Secretary. He shall be endorsed by three Fellows, none of whom is a member of the Council. The Secretary, upon receipt of the application, shall present it for consideration at the next meeting of the Council. A candidate for change in status shall submit his application in letter form to the Council, via the Secretary.

C. Election:

If the candidate's application is approved by three-fourths of those members of the Council present and voting, the candidate's name shall be placed on the card of announcement for two consecutive meetings. The election shall take place at the meeting at which the candidate's name shall be declared elected upon receiving the vote of three-fourths of the Fellows present and voting.

D. Privileges:

A Fellow is privilege to attend all scientific and social functions of the Society. He is entitled to vote at all business sessions. He may hold office and may serve on committees.

Section 2: Honorary Fellows:

A. Qualifications:

Honorary Fellowship in the Society shall be limited to those who have made notable contributions to obstetrics and/or gynecology in general and to The Obstetrical and Gynecological Society of Suffolk County Incorporated in particular.

B. Nomination:

Nomination for Honorary Fellowship shall be made to the Council through the Secretary, in writing.

C. Election:

The Procedure for the election of Fellows shall prevail.

D. Privileges:

An Honorary Fellow may attend the scientific sessions of the Society and may actively participate in them. He/She will receive any and all correspondence from the Society which is received by the Fellows. He/She may attend the business sessions by invitation of the President. He/She may not vote nor hold office.

Section 3: Life Fellows:

A. Qualifications:

Any Fellow in good standing, upon attaining the age of sixty-five is eligible for election to Life Fellowship. A Fellow in good standing in the Society may be eligible for election to Life Fellowship at any age if, because of illness or other sufficient reason, he would be otherwise forced to resign from the Society.

B. Application

A Fellow desiring election to Life Fellowship must apply in writing to the Council through the Secretary.

C. Election:

If the candidate's application is approved by three-fourths of the Council members present and voting, he shall be elected to Life Fellowship. This change in status shall appear on the announcement card preceding the next stated meeting.

D. Privileges:

A Life Fellow is privileged to attend all the scientific and social functions of the Society. He may attend all business sessions but he may neither vote nor hold office. He shall not be required to pay dues.

Section 4: Reapplication

Any application for membership that has been denied may be re-submitted one year after the fact.
